Own Your Learning

Own Your Learning, Own Your future.”

The own your learning strategy is based on the belief that our pupils are capable of taking responsibility for their learning and supporting the learning of each other.  The strategy aims to draw out from our pupils this potential by providing opportunities for them to share their thinking, make positive decisions about their learning and to act on these decisions. In this way, we hope to empower them to confidently own their learning and work towards the future they choose.

At Gladesmore community school we value the knowledge and contributions our pupils bring. Our strength lies in our capacity to provide a safe environment where pupils can articulate what they know, share it, and through interaction build on each other’s knowledge.  In this way, we hope to develop as a learning community that enables each pupil to be successful.

Own Your Learning Lesson

On Thursday morning, pupils in Key Stage 3 participate in a lesson titled "Own Your Learning" which aims to develop their learning strategies. Pupils are encouraged to think about how they learn, to contribute their unique perspectives and experiences of learning in the classroom and outside the classroom. They also engage in activities and discussions aimed at improving how they individually and collectively interact with subject content.

My Learning Journey

Gladesmore Community School wants our pupils to recognise that they can take control of what they know by learning subject content prior to the classroom lesson. We know that starting the learning process in this way enhances their ability to deepen their understanding, ask questions in the classroom, and engage in discussions about the subject content. The "Own Your Learning" team has created a website called "My Learning Journey", specifically made for and only accessible to Gladesmore pupils, which outlines the learning in each subject area for each term with resources and links that pupils can use to pre-learn and re-learn.

Make Year 10 Count

The Make Year 10 Count initiative is designed to encourage pupils to maximise Year 10. Pupils benefit from individual interviews with members of Gladesmore Community School staff focused on their current progress and their future plans.

Make Year 11 Count

The Make Year 11 Count initiative builds upon the success of Make Year 10 Count by encouraging pupils to reflect on their progress so far and to set goals for the future.
