The Art GCSE will be a final assessment graded from 1-9 based on all Coursework produced over two completed projects. Each project is marked equally in these four areas:

  1. Written analysis and exploration of artists/artwork.
  2. Developing ideas and experimenting with materials.
  3. Recording through drawing and photography.
  4. Original final outcome (produced in 10 hour controlled assessment).

live moderated performance (40% of overall grade) based on the following categories:

  • One individual activity
  • One team based activity
  • Coursework (Action Plan) based around a candidate's strongest activity

120 Guided Learning Hours (GLH), each unit is worth 30 GLH

  • Unit 1: Health and Fitness for Sport and Exercise (mandatory)
  • Unit 2: Practical Sports Performance (mandatory)
  • Unit 3: Applying the principles of personal Training (mandatory) .
  • Unit 5:  The Sports Performer in Action

Unit 1: Health and Fitness for Sport and Exercise (External Assessment mandatory) 

  • Onscreen test set by and marked by Edexcel
  • Assessment must be taken by the learner under examination conditions
  • The external assessment will be 1 hour
  • The external assessment must be passed in order to pass the course

 Unit 2: Practical Sports Performance (mandatory)

  • Learning aim A: understanding the rules and regulation and scoring system for selected sports
  • Learning aim B: Practically demonstrate skills, techniques and tactics in selected sports
  • Learning aim C: To be able to review sports performance

Unit 3: Applying the principles of personal Training (mandatory)

  • Learning Aim A: Design a personal fitness training programme
  • Learning Aim B: Know about the musculoskeletal system and cardiorespiratory system and the effects on the body during fitness training
  • Learning Aim C: Implement a self-designed personal fitness training programme to achieve own goals and objectives D review a personal fitness training programme

  • Learning Aim A: Know about the short-term responses and long-term adaptations of the body systems to exercise
