Coronavirus - Learning at Home
Many thanks to everyone who is staying home in order to protect our community from Coronavirus. A special thank you to all our parents and carers who are carrying out essential work so that our community can continue to function and look after each other. We recognise that this is not easy and the Gladesmore family is here to support you all as you strive to do your best in difficult circumstances.
We know that being at home can be challenging and these pages are designed to support students and parents at this difficult time. These pages are intended to support the continuance of learning, to provide support for students in terms of their wellbeing and to offer some options for entertainment.
Your teachers will be setting work on 'Show My Homework', so please check there first. To stay motivated, we recommend you treat each day as if it were a normal school day and follow your school timetable. It's important to get into a routine to avoid falling into bad habits.
For example, your Mondays might look like this:
|Morning||08:00 - 09:10||Get dressed, breakfast, stretches, check Show My Homework, reading|
|Period 1||09:10 - 10:10||Maths|
|Period 2||10:10 - 11:10||Spanish|
|Break||11:10 - 11:30||Take a break, have a snack, walk around, spend some time with a family member|
|Period 3||11:30 - 12:30||Science|
|Period 4||12:30 - 13:30||Music|
|Lunch||13:30 - 14:20||Have lunch, do some exercise, talk to a friend, do something you enjoy|
|Period 5||14:20 - 15:20||Art|
Your timetable can be flexible, but you should find what works best for you and stick with it. Here is an example of a school timetable inspired by Nina in 7GGL.
Year 11: We know that you many of you are disappointed that you will not have the opportunity to take your GCSE exams and we too are disappointed because all the indicators were that you were going to be record-breakers. However, do not worry because we have all the data and the evidence to demonstrate your abilities and we will be sharing this with the exam boards when we are asked.
Many year 11 students have asked what they should be doing now.
- Please remember that colleges are likely to set entrance tests so please keep up with your skills (particularly in those subjects you wish to study at post-16)
- Use this opportunity to acquire new skills: touch typing, drawing, languages
- Develop your subject knowledge beyond the GCSE course – start looking at A-Level syllabuses; learn topics just for fun
Year 10: You will be taking GCSE exams as expected next Summer so please use this time wisely. Teachers should be setting work on SMHW and you should be completing it. At the same time, please ensure that you are creating revision resources and going over old courses. We will be in touch with some exciting digital learning opportunities so please check your email and SMHW regularly. You should also make use of the KS4 Digital Learning page which has links to useful websites.
Year 7-9: Please complete work on 'Show My Homework' set by your teachers. We will be in touch about other exciting digital learning opportunities so please check your SMHW and email regularly. You should also make use of the KS3 Digital Learning page which has links to useful websites.
