1. Recruitment

Gladesmore Community School Teacher Education thrives to nurture individuals to be equipped with the competencies to teach in North London and beyond. We have an abundant network of schools that will provide dedicated and personalised support for student teachers whilst school based. We have an unparalleled track record for employability, with our student teachers sought after for their inclusive practice. We are a small provider offering a unique approach to teacher education.

This full-time course is provided jointly with our partners at Kingston University and leads to the award of a Post Graduate certificate in Education (PGCE) and Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).

You will study two academic Masters (Level 7) modules to help you be a ‘Reflective Teacher’ and understand the impact of ‘Policy, Practice and Professionalism’ in education. Your professional practice module is split into three phases (Foundation, Development and Consolidation) which will take place in two contrasting schools to give you the greatest range of inclusive experience possible. Throughout your school experience you will be assigned a mentor who will closely follow and support your progress, addressing your developing needs. You will be required to show evidence against the Teacher Standards in your profile reports to progress to the next phase of learning, which will gradually increase the teaching timetable and responsibilities.

Entry Requirements

  • An honours degree, from a UK higher education institution or equivalent overseas qualification, relevant to your subject specialism (at least 50% of the degree content needs to be relevant to your subject specialism). We will take into consideration school experience for those who do not have a related degree.
  • GCSE grade 4 or above (C or above for examinations taken prior to 2017) in English and mathematics. If you do not meet the GCSE requirement in any of these subjects, you may take an equivalency test (one attempt only) at the School of Education following acceptance of any potential offer given. View further details.
  • All overseas qualifications must be accompanied by NARIC equivalence.
  • An enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service and Health checking process which identifies no concerns about suitability to teach.
  • Please note: you apply through UCAS Teacher Training for this course. Using course code 2ZB3.

2. All applicants

Please read our Entry Profile on the UCAS website carefully. It will tell you what we expect in the way of qualifications, experience and approach.
Please do not send any details of yourself, nor your applications to the schools. We are only able to process applications via the UCAS system.
Please note that we do not confirm receipt of applications, although information concerning your application will be updated on the UCAS website.

3. Overseas applicants

If you have overseas equivalent qualifications, it is very important that you check that your qualifications are accepted by the university. NARIC is one way of checking whether your qualifications are accepted in the UK but not all universities accept NARIC (https://www.naric.org.uk/naric/). The university makes the final judgement on equivalency.

Please be aware that an English exam taken overseas as a foreign language exam is not the same as an English GCSE taken in England. You may be required to take an Equivalency test or an IELTS. Please see the DfE website for more information:

4. Selection process

Each partner school has their own selection schedule and process. Applicants will be advised accordingly by the appropriate school.

Gladesmore Community School selection process

After careful perusal of application forms, we will invite successful applicants to attend for skill level interviews, including a numeracy test and a formal writing test. Should this section of the interview process go well, then applicants will be invited to spend a further day working in the classroom alongside experienced teachers, as well as have a short interview with the Head teacher. Those applicants who are successful at this stage will be invited to formal interviews, when we hold formal selection panel interviews and provide applicants with the opportunity to teach a lesson in their subject.
