Drama — Old Vic
The Gladesmore Drama department has been lucky enough to work in partnership with the Old Vic theatre since 2014. Over 200 pupils have benefited from this programme over the years. This Drama programme is designed to develop an interest in theatre and inspire our students.
Every year our Year 10 Drama pupils are invited to apply to join our ‘Young Voices, Old Vic Club’ where they take part in a year- long programme of workshops and theatre visits and 30 students will have FREE access to four Old Vic 'Live' theatre productions over the academic year.
Leading drama practitioners deliver bespoke workshops to our young people on different aspects of theatre including acting, directing, devising, theatre analysis, set and costume design and puppetry. Professionals within the industry also visit our school and run pre-show workshops, giving our students an insight and focus on skills, techniques and alternative roles and responsibilities within the theatre.
Through theatre visits, pupils develop an appreciation of the theatre and a critical awareness of the stagecraft elements. They are exposed to different genres, styles and writers from the expansive range of productions that the Old Vic produce every year. Pupils said that they really appreciated this opportunity and look forward to each visit.
